Creating A Dialup Connection (Win ME)

Step 1: Install the Dial-Up Networking

Note : Most machines will come with this already installed. An easy way to check is to click on START >> SETTINGS and see if Dial-Up Networking is listed. If it is listed, skip to Step 2, otherwise proceed with the following steps and be sure to have the Windows Millennium CD in the drive.

1. Click on "Start", then "Settings", and chose "Control Panel".
2. Double-click on "Add/Remove Programs".
3. Click on the "Windows Setup" tab.
4. Click on "Communications", then "Details".
5. Check the checkbox that says "Dial-up Networking".
6. Click "OK", then click "OK" again.
7. Windows ME will then install Dial-Up Networking.

1. Click on "Start", then "Settings", and chose "Control Panel".
2. Double-click on "Network".
3. Look in the box labeled "The Following Network Components are Installed". Check to see if you have either "TCP/IP" or "TCP/IP - Dial Up Adapter" already listed in the box. If you do, you can skip to Step 3. If there is no listing for either "TCP/IP" or "TCP/IP - Dial Up Adapter", proceed to the next step. Note: A very common bug is to have TCP/IP installed more than once. If you have done this, remove all TCP/IP entries. You remove an entry by highlighting it and hitting the 'Remove' button. Once all TCP/IP entries have been deleted, add a single one.
4. Click on "Add", then "Protocol", and then "Add".
5. Select "Microsoft" as the manufacturer, then "TCP/IP" as the protocol.
6. Click "OK", "OK", and then "OK" again.
7. Windows 95 will then add TCP/IP.
   Note: You might be asked to provide computer and workgroup names at this point. If so, click on the identification tab at the top of the screen, type in your last name for the computer name, 'workgroup' for workgroup, and 'computer' for computer description. Then hit OK.

1. Click on "Start", then "Settings" and chose "Dial-up Networking".
2. Double-click on "Make New Connection".
3. Remove the words "My Connection" and type "Primus" in that box. Click "Next".
4. Depending on your location, enter the correct phone number.
5. Click "Next".
6. Click "Finish".

1. Click on the "Primus" icon with the right mouse button and select "Properties".
2. Remove checkmark from 'Use country code and area code'.
3. Click the "Networking" tab at top.
4. Make sure that the "Type of Dial-Up Server" is "PPP: Internet, Windows2000/NT, Windows ME".
5. Click "OK" button.
6. Click "OK" button.
7. Click the "Security" tab at top.
8. Enter your username (full email address, ex: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) and password in the boxes provided, but leave the "Domain" box blank.
9. Hit the 'OK' button.
10. Click on the "Primus" icon with the right mouse button and select "Create Shortcut". Click "Yes" on the window that appears.
11. Close the "Dial-up Networking" window and double-click on the "Shortcut to Primus ".
12. Be sure your username and password are in the boxes provided and click "Connect".
