Unknown User Config / Catchall Address
The below guide will walk you through the Unknown user configuration or "Catchall" through the MyAccount portal.
- Log into the MyAccount Portal (http://myaccount.primus.ca) - If you do not have MyAccount portal access, please contact our support staff at 1-888-222-8577 to have your access configured.
- Click on "Advanced Records"
- Under "Domain Name Records" find the domain in which you wish to work with and
click on the name. You will know the domain has email services enabled as you will
find an "X" under "Email Services". If you require email services on a domain not
enabled, please contact your sales representative or our support staff for
assistance.
- The page will refresh to a new page. Find and click on "Email alias and
Autoresponders".
- You will see a button marked "Modify Config".
- Select the type of configuration you wish to use:
Return Generic "Unknown User" - This is the most popular and widely used method. Email that is not sent to a valid destination address will be returned to the sender with "User Unknown" error.
Forward Origonal Message to same address at this other domain - This will forward your message to another domain. Should you be configuring this for "domain.ca", but wish for all of your mail to be delivered to your new addresses at "newdomain.com", you would enter "newdomain.com" and let this email server determine the proper action for the message.
Forward Origonal Message to this Email address - All messages addressed to an address which is not valid would be forwarded to a specific mailbox of your designation.
Return a custom message to sender - You may specify your own bounce message to the sender. With this option you may also configure the "from" address in which to reply will be sent back to the sender "from". You may also forward a copy of the message to an address of your designation should you wish.
- Click on "Save"
- Please note that configurations can take up to one hour before they become active on the Email Server.
